What is the buddy system?

The DWG has set up a Buddy system to welcome and guide new PhD students, postdocs, and predocs. In this program, you are paired with a KU Leuven member for support with moving, housing, and paperwork. The buddy system is there to help new colleagues get started living and working in Kortrijk and Bruges.

How to get a buddy

If you’re coming to Kulak (or recently arrived) and you want to get a buddy, all you have to do is fill out this form and send an e-mail to Jonathan.

What to expect from your buddy?

• Help with administration (university, government, bank, insurance).
• Help to find a place to live.
• Help getting utilities (cell phone, internet, water …).
• Introduction to the buddy community.
• Showing you around campus and Kortrijk/Bruges.

What not to expect

You shouldn’t expect financial, material, medical, psychological, legal, … help from your buddy. For that kind of problems, you can contact Student Services or your doctoral ombudsperson.
